Pig Trail Scenic Byway owes its name to the wild pigs who carved paths through thick forest growth, creating trails that settlers later adopted. Get caught up in the rush of students, sports fans and other University of Arkansas supporters going to and from Fayetteville, home of the "Razorbacks." The mascot of this University can trace its roots back to the pigs that first made the area home. Youll feel a part of the community among rabid Razorback fans, wearing red hog hats and calling "woo-pig-sooee."

The Pig Trail runs through the Ozark National forest, which is known for its beauty of mixed foliage and beautiful scenery. The rugged Boston Mountains loom in the distance, inviting hikers to enjoy panoramic views of the area below. Hike through colorful flora and rugged terrain to catch a glimpse of a deer or other wildlife foraging through the fields. Picnic among the fiery golds and reds of autumn by the rushing waters of a waterfall . Spend springtime hiking along the winding trails in the area when the serviceberry, dogwood and redbud trees are in bloom.

The Pig Trail provides numerous recreational opportunities no matter what time of the year you go. Enjoy open fields and pastures, rugged cedar breaks and rocky bluffs or step out of your car to enjoy a fresh caught lunch of spotted bass or green sunfish at the Mulberry River. If fishing isnt your favorite activity, brave the rushing waters for a few hours of whitewater rafting or kayaking and afterward spend a night under leafy boughs while the rushing waters from the White River sooth you to sleep.
