Park Road 4 - Pick up this road from 281 between Burnet and Marble Falls. Ride aound Ins Lake State Park and eventually dumps you out on Hwy 29 near Lake Buchanan. Fun road, wildlife refuge, lots and lots of deer to see and some great picture opportunities. Free roaming deer - be careful.
Hwy 152 - From Llano, take 152 West to US 87 junction. This is a great road following the Llano River. About halfway to the junction, there is a small town called Castell. This has a great low-water crossing of the river. We stopped on the bridge for pictures. Dont try this after a big rain! Once you leave Castell, there are very few fences. Lots of free-roaming cattle. But this is a very nice road. Theres also a few cattle grates - I took most of them at 60+ - no problem. Get gas before leaving Llano!
Cow Creek Road - Want a challenge? Take 1431 east from Marble Falls. A few miles after the little area called Smithwick, a sign will point you to Cow Creek Road on your left. Challenging road - lots of twists and turns - free roaming cattle in a few places - quite a few cattle grates, a few of which are a little rough - Several river crossings where you actually have to ride through a little water - again, dont try this after a big rain! Eventually dumps you out on 1174 - left will take you back to 1431 for a big loop - right will take you to Bertram. 1174 is also a pretty good road with a few spectacular vistas.
